I found this article interesting. It’s about an illegal immigrant who was executed in Texas for a robbery/murder. I, myself, am too lazy to really read up on the laws about this, however, it seems to me that US citizens have done the same thing and live very long lives in prison. Que interesante…

In other news…John Edwards admits to his extra-marital affair, but not to fathering the ‘love-child’, yet no DNA test has be done. We all hate on the tabloids (what does that word even mean?), but more often than not there is usually a significant amount of truth to their reports. I wish this story wasn’t true. Luis Ramirez, an illegal immigrant of Mexican heritage died earlier this month from a savage beating by teenagers in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. This story has recently gotten a lot of press because the alleged assailants have been charged with both hate crimes and homicide. Some believe this incident was catapulted by Ramirez’s citizenship status and that the teens had been drinking alcohol when the incident occurred.
This simple fact that all the alleged perpetrators were White males, and supposedly upstanding members of their community (i.e. good students and football players) is surprising to some members of the community while others aren’t surprised at all; “The young guys around here are racist because they think they’re so much better than everyone else,” one woman stated, indicating this may be better described as an issue of class-ism. Some people think that because they’re kids are A students in high school or football players that they shit gold when this simply isn’t true. I knew many privileged kids in high school who had ‘everything’ and their parents wrapped around their fingers, but we’re doing all kinds of illegal stuff. I hope this reaffirms the fact that parents simply do not know their children as well as they think they do. Under the influence or not (which is also illegal and I’m not sure if they’re being charged for that as well) it takes a lot of effort to savagely beat someone.
Whether this was indeed a hate crime or not, I believe the idea that Ramirez was walking home with a young White woman late at night certainly served as a catalyst for these young men to commit a very brutal murder. Read CNN’s coverage here.
